Outside Nursling & Rownhams
Nursling and Rownhams is located between Romsey and Southampton and is only three miles from the edge of the New Forest. The M27 allows easy access from the village to Bournemouth (25 miles) and Portsmouth (20 miles). Winchester is just 14 miles away and ferries run from Southampton to the Isle of Wight.
Romsey is a small market town on the River Test with many pubs, restaurants and shops. Broadlands House, the former home of Lord Mountbatten lies on the outskirts and the town also has an Abbey dating from Norman times.
Southampton is a city of about 250,000 people. It is a major port and home to many of the world’s cruise liners including the QE2 and Queen Mary. It has many shops and restaurants and The Mayflower Theatre is the largest theatre in the south of England. The internationally renowned Southampton Boat Show is held each September.
Winchester is a historic city with a population of around 120,000. It is the administrative capital and county town of Hampshire. Winchester was formerly the capital of England, during the 10th and early 11th centuries, and before that the capital of Wessex. It has many historical buildings including the cathedral, Wolvesey Castle and Palace and the Great Hall which house the legendary Arthurian round table. There’s also a small theatre, many shops, pubs and restaurants. Guided tours are available.
Portsmouth is a city of about 280,000 people. It is a significant naval port and home to the world’s oldest dry dock and to many famous ships, including Nelson’s famous flagship HMS Victory. The Spinnaker Tower is a recent addition located in the recently redeveloped area known as Gunwharf Quays.
