Lords Hill Runners

INVITATION
Lordshill Road Runners invites villagers of Nursling and Rownhams to join us on our friendly runs and training sessions, at no charge. We have members of all ages and abilities, but you will need to be able to jog steadily for around an hour, as a minimum, in order to enjoy the sessions and be safe from injury. Why not join in our fun training sessions on Tuesday evenings at The Sports Centre. Whether you are a steady jogger or a high speed runner, the enjoyable activities will meet your needs.

ABOUT THE CLUB
The Club was formed in 1982 to promote running in our area. We have a current membership of about 60 men and women of all ages and abilities, with a minimum age limit of 17. The Club is based at the Oaklands Community School in Fairisle Road and we meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening, from about 6:15pm for a run at 6:30pm. There are changing and locker facilities at Oaklands as well as showers and a bar and although most people arrive ready changed into their running kit, a number usually stay afterwards for a shower and a drink and an opportunity to discuss races past and future, or anything else for that matter! We also have a notice board in the main reception area of Oaklands where details of forthcoming races and social events are displayed and where entry forms for a variety of races can be obtained. Many members run on other days of the week and informal arrangements for such runs are usually made at Club nights.

MEMBERSHIP
For information on joining the Club, visit www.lordshillroadrunners.org.uk or tel. 80576060. The Club is currently affiliated to England Athletics, Hampshire Athletics Association, the South of England Athletics Association and UK Athletics. The £15 per year subscription entitles members to compete in events organised by all the above with a saving of usually £2 on race entry fees compared with runners who do not belong to a club.

We organise two road races through the village each year: the Lordshill Ten, a ten mile race held on a Sunday morning early in November, and the Lordshill 10k, a ten kilometre race held on a Sunday morning in June, in 2008 this is on June 29th. (Details and entry information on the website). Club members help organise the races which raise funds for charities and for the Club so that we can keep membership fees low.

During the summer months the Club participates in the RR10 series of races, held on alternate Wednesday evenings, where we compete with a group of other local running clubs on a league basis. The races are off-road, generally between 4 and 5 miles in length, and are followed by a social gathering at a convenient pub. The races are for Club members only and no entry fees are charged. In the winter months we take part in the CC6 series of cross country races, held on Sunday mornings, which are similarly restricted to Club members but at no cost to the participants. We, as a Club, organise one event in each series and rely on members turning up to marshal, etc., with a limited number able to run for team or personal scoring. We also compete in the Hampshire Road Race League, which entails a series of races over distances from 10km to 20 miles, from September to June, and the Hampshire Cross Country League over the winter months.

We hold a number of social events each year, such as barbecues, skittles evenings, the annual Club awards evening in the new year and outings to various locations. We have an annual club championship competition, held within local races, with awards in various age categories as well as overall men’s and women’s champions, and the opportunity for many members to win prizes. Subsidised trips are sometimes arranged to events such as the “Round the Lakes 20” in Rhayader (mid Wales), the Caen and Medoc Marathons in France and the Snowdonia Marathon.

The Club publishes a regular newsletter, ‘Road Runner’, containing race reports, details of events, etc., and articles by new members are particularly welcome. We also have a lively and attractive Club web-site at www.lordshillroadrunners.org.uk which has useful information, picture galleries and links to other running sites.
